Role of Counseling in an OHSS-Free Clinic
摘要
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a serious complication associated with fertility treatments, particularly in vitro fertilization (IVF). To address this, effective counseling plays a key role in educating patients about the risks and strategies for preventing OHSS, offering reassurance that their healthcare team is actively working to minimize potential issues. A primary goal of counseling is raising awareness of risk factors such as high AMH levels or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), both of which can increase susceptibility to OHSS. Educating patients about these risks empowers them to make informed choices regarding their treatment. Prevention strategies are equally important in counseling sessions, with clinicians discussing personalized approaches designed to reduce OHSS risk. By understanding these strategies, patients gain confidence that every precaution is being taken to protect their health. Counseling also fosters informed decision-making by ensuring patients have a clear understanding of the risks and benefits of different treatment options. This open communication helps patients feel more in control of their fertility journey. Additionally, emotional support is vital. Fertility treatments can be emotionally draining, and the risk of OHSS adds stress. Through counseling, patients receive psychological support and individualized care plans to help manage anxiety and improve treatment outcomes.
