Poland’s Relations with ASEAN and ASEM
摘要
Poland has sought to develop political and economic relations outside Europe primarily to diversify and enhance trade and investment relations. Warsaw perceives ASEAN countries to be the most attractive partners since they are dynamic economies with large consumer markets. One of the channels of communication with representatives of these countries at various levels is the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM)forum. However, in recent years, Poland’s political, economic or people-to-people relations with Southeast Asian countries have been underdeveloped. The chapter argues that Poland’s relations with the region are bedevilled by the low level of knowledge about ASEAN markets among Polish companies, the reluctance of Polish policymakers to strengthen political relations. Warsaw has also not fully utilized ASEM to enhance relations with Asian countries, including ASEAN.
