The chapter examines initial Indian perceptions of Poland and goes on to analyse the vicissitudes of political relations during the Cold War when relations were an adjunct of Indo-Soviet ties. It assesses the transformation of the relationship since the early 1990s to the present and discusses Polish efforts to reach out to India since the early 2000s. It looks at the renewed re-engagement with Central Europe under Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014. It assesses defence cooperation and Polish arms exports from 2010 to 2022 as well as cultural cooperation and Polish cultural diplomacy towards India. The chapter examines the motivations and results of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Warsaw (August 2024) and the elevation of the relationship to a strategic partnership, which is India’s tenth in Europe and Poland’s fourth in Asia. In conclusion, the chapter assesses prospects for the future.
