DED is a multifactorial disease caused due to pathological alteration in the homeostasis of ocular surface. Various pathophysiological factors have been implicated in causation of dry eye disease with varying severity. The ocular surface derangements are reflected in tear volume reduction, neurosensory abnormalities, ocular surface inflammation, angiogenesis and damage and high osmotic pressure of the tear film. Viral keratitis has long been implicated as a major causative factor of dry eye disease attributed mainly to neurosensory abnormalities. It causes inflammation of the ocular surface, lacrimal glands and corneal neuropathy, thereby causing dry eye disease of varying severity. Understanding the pathogenesis of post-viral keratitis dry eye disease will aid us in diagnosis and individualised treatment for the patient.

摘要
