Viruses impact the posterior segment of the eye in various ways. They can present as acute emergencies with sudden onset vision loss and features of retinitis, as well as painful anterior uveitis. They can present simultaneously with active systemic viral infections as well in immune-deficiency states. Variably, these may also be detected as intrauterine or congenital infections with retinal manifestations. Rarely, as in cases with Herpetic Zoster, overlapping presentation may also be noted together with corneal, orbital and neuro-ophthalmic disease. This chapter summarizes uveo-retinal manifestations of viral infections along with their management in brief.
