This chapter compares across the equation constructions in Mandarin, with a focus on their differences regarding the anaphoric use and internal use. I demonstrate that the availability of internal use for a construction correlates with their not requiring an additive particle in the anaphoric use, as well as the unavailability of reflexive use. This correlation can be captured by the presence of an additive element in the structure.
