This chapter examines the constructions expressing equation between nominal objects, including individuals and kinds in Mandarin. I propose that these constructions do not have identical semantic compositions and Mandarin grammar can formally distinguish different ways of equating individuals (i.e. based on their identity or based on their maximal similarity).
