The Study of the Effect of the Tanker Aircraft Wake on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of the Receiver Aircraft
摘要
When aircraft are in formation flight, the wake field of the leading aircraft can influence the aerodynamic characteristics of the trailing aircraft. Such influences are often adverse, especially during in-flight refueling, where unstable wakes can increase the difficulty of airborne refueling. However, when the trailing aircraft is positioned within specific wake regions, the wake can produce effects that increase lift and reduce drag, thereby saving fuel. Therefore, the wake effects also have their beneficial aspects. This paper employs numerical methods to simulate the effects of the wake flow field from the front tanker aircraft on the receiver aircraft during hose-drogue aerial refueling at different typical positions. The standard models CHN-T1 and CT-1 were released by the national numerical wind tunnel. CHN-T1 was used as the tanker aircraft and CT-1 was used as the receiving aircraft to form the refueling formation team of this study. The study investigates the variation law of aerodynamic forces experienced by the receiver and analyzes the flow mechanism, providing references for the design of aerial refueling procedures. Additionally, it explores the feasibility of Surfing Aircraft Vortices for Energy (SAVE) technology.
