A Review of Artificial Intelligence Applications in Aircraft Mission Planning System

With the rapid advancements in generative artificial intelligence, mission planning systems—serving as the core of command decision-making in the context of joint operations—are increasingly influenced by their integration with AI technologies. The way AI is embedded into these systems will directly shape the future of intelligent warfare. To fully leverage mature AI technologies and explore new points of integration, this paper begins by reviewing the historical development of both artificial intelligence and mission planning. Based on a typical mission planning process, it systematically analyzes and summarizes the current applications of AI in aircraft platform-level mission planning systems, following the logical sequence of mission generation, task allocation, action design, and effectiveness evaluation. The study identifies key technologies and integration approaches at each stage of mission planning and provides insights into future development pathways.
