Obesity During Childhood Related to Numerous Psychosocial and Health Conditions
摘要
Childhood obesity is a global health crisis with significant physical, psychological, and social consequences. This chapter explores the multifactorial nature of childhood obesity, addressing its prevalence, risk factors, and impacts. It delves into the physiological effects, including metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disorders, type 2 diabetes, and orthopedic complications, alongside psychological challenges such as depression, low self-esteem, and body image dissatisfaction. The chapter examines the roles of genetic, environmental, and biological factors, as well as psychosocial stressors like bullying, abuse, and family dynamics, in contributing to obesity. Additionally, it highlights the long-term consequences of untreated childhood obesity, including increased morbidity and social isolation in adulthood. Evidence-based interventions, including lifestyle modifications, dietary management, physical activity, and psychological support, are proposed to mitigate the effects of childhood obesity and improve health outcomes. Emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach, the chapter advocates for comprehensive prevention and management strategies to address this pressing issue.
