The Indian diaspora has an uneven presence throughout Europe. This chapter discusses the nature, causes, and evolution of Indian migration in eight European countries—Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. It highlights the phenomenal growth in the migration of high-skilled Indian professionals responding to the demands in technology, finance, and health sectors since the late twentieth century. It assesses the impact of the evolving and shifting West European immigration laws and regulations on the quantity and quality of migration. It discusses New Delhi’s bilateral partnership arrangements with European countries, including those focusing on skilled labour and student mobility, knowledge partnerships, mutual recognition of qualifications, visa facilitation, and illegal migration. The chapter examines the motivations, objectives, and implications of India’s migration and mobility partnerships with West European countries. In conclusion, the author identifies and assesses the diverse challenges and prospects of Indian migration to Western Europe.
