This chapter describes the concept of geo-referencing, which is an essential technical technique in geographical information systems (GIS). By referencing aerial photos kept and/or produced by the Lands Department, it explains the basic operations and limitations involved in practice and aims to provide fundamental information to non-land surveying/GIS professionals who interpret aerial photos during their land use analyses.
