This chapter tends to examine the macro-level spatial patterns and changes of rural life space in the Jianghan Plain. As defined in the previous chapter, this chapter uses Landsat TM imagery to delineate the spatial extent of rural life space as encompassing rural settlements and the surrounding arable land. The analysis begins with the evolution of rural life space nodes, followed by a focus on rural settlements—as the core of rural life space—to explore their spatial network connections and spatial patterns. Through these three dimensions, the chapter progressively reveals the macro-level transformation patterns of rural life space in the Jianghan Plain.
