The Completely Automated Public Turing test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart, or CAPTCHA, has changed a lot since it was first developed and is now a vital safeguard against automated bots. The current developments in CAPTCHA design, their ability to prevent web assaults, and the difficulties presented by developing artificial intelligence (AI) methods are all reviewed in this study. The paper discusses the future direction of CAPTCHA technology and offers insights on new CAPTCHA kinds, their usability, and the best way to balance security and accessibility. The goal of recent advancements has been to create increasingly complex and intuitive CAPTCHA varieties, such as behavior-based, gamified, audio-based, and image-based systems. These developments attempt to balance security and accessibility, tackling problems like the computational overhead of difficult problems and usability for people with disabilities. However, because AI has made it possible for bots to accurately circumvent conventional CAPTCHAs, it has created additional obstacles, particularly in areas like machine learning and adversarial networks. In addition to discussing current research targeted at improving security and user experience, this article examines the most recent advancements in CAPTCHA technology and assesses how well they defend against contemporary threats. The intention of this paper is to serve a review over current advanced CAPTCHA and where they are lacking.
