Ironsands, also known as titanomagnetite based on its primary mineral phase, is a titanium-rich iron ore typically formed through rapid cooling of volcanic lava. These ores are predominantly found in coastal regions such as New Zealand, Indonesia, and South Africa, where they have undergone prolonged weathering, marine abrasion, and atmospheric oxidation. This process results in the formation of dense, rounded, and nearly spherical black sand particles.
