It has been 15 years since Bitcoin first appeared, and with it, blockchain was introduced to the world of finance. Soon after, it was discussed beyond industry borders, in academia and at bar tables around the world alike. We struggle to think of any technology that sparked as many innovative business ideas, in this case, often with their dedicated cryptocurrency at heart. Related infrastructure also developed swiftly: Smart contracts, NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), the Metaverse, DeFi (Decentralized Finance), DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations), … and thus far, in mid-2025, there is no slowing down in sight. In fact, the field is moving at an ever-faster pace, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with developments.
