Sleep, a reversible behavioral state characterized by reduced responsiveness to external stimuli, plays a vital role in cognitive performance, metabolic homeostasis, immune function, and overall health (Lane et al. 2023). Circadian rhythms, on the other hand, are endogenous ~24-hour cycles driven by an internal clock principally located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus that synchronizes physiological processes to the external light–dark cycle.
