Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease is a self-limiting avascular necrosis of capital femoral epiphysis in children which frequently leads to deformation of femoral head. The name was derived as this pathology was discovered independently and simultaneously by Arthur Legg in USA (February), Jacques Calvé in France (July) and George Perthes in Germany (October) in 1910. It is also known by different synonyms like Osteochondritis deformans juvenilis, coxa plana, pseudocoxalgia, arthritis deformans juvenilis, precoxalgia, coxa vara capitalis and quiet hip disease.
