Developmental Dysplasia of Hip (DDH) was earlier known as congenital dislocation of hip (CDH). As some hips are not dislocated at birth and develop dysplastic changes in later life, the term CDH was replaced with DDH. It includes a wide spectrum of pathology, ranging from mild acetabular dysplasia presenting in adulthood to irreducible hip dislocation at birth. A considerable knowledge regarding pathology, diagnosis and management is essential in treating the patient. The incidence of hip dysplasia in India is reported to be 0–75 per 1000 live births, and that of frank dislocation is between 0 and 2.6/1000 live births. Late-presenting DDH is common in India, with most studies reporting a mean age of >20 months for children presenting for treatment.
