A compact dual-bandmonopole antenna with U shaped design is proposed in this article. The proposed antenna is useful at 3 GHz (WiMAX), 4.7 GHz (5G/WLAN communication). The multiband frequency curve is a result of an “u” shaped slot made at the centre of the substrate. A rectangular patch is made within the centre of the “u” shaped cavity. The proposed antenna is designed on FR4 epoxy substrate having a dielectric constant of 4.4. The monopole antenna has a uniform ground plane and the size of the monopole antenna is 25 × 30 × 0.8 mm3. Also, the proposed antenna shows good impedance bandwidth with 23.33% and 29.78% for WiMAX (2.6–3.3 GHz) and WLAN/5G (4.2–5.6 GHz) respectively.
