Evaluating Social Cognition as an Endophenotypic Marker in Borderline Personality Disorder
摘要
The current study aims at examining the relation between borderline personality disorder (BPD) and social cognitive capacities and the presence of genetic or acquired trait deficits. As measures of social cognitive capacities, the study employed the Social Cognition Rating Tool in Indian Settings (SOCRATIS) on 107 patients diagnosed with BPD, 107 psychiatric control individuals, 107 community control individuals, and their first-degree relatives (FDRs), involving different severities of impairment from severe to zero. BPD was diagnosed using the Borderline Personality Questionnaire (BPQ). In patients who are dissatisfied to have BPD, 55% were severely impaired socially compared to only 10% of their FDRs indicating some genetic capacity to undergo social cognitive deficits. The ramifications of some of the relatives of patients diagnosed as BPD not able to undergo any social cognitive impairment, namely impairment, indicates considerable impact of environment. This paper provides a holistic view of the genetic/environmental interactionality factors to social cognitive impairment to patients with BPD, and its practice applications for clinical practice and theories for future research.
