Aluminium silicon alloys having good weldability, castability, wear and corrosion resistance, and they are employed in most of the structural parts in automobile and aerospace industry. The second phase plays a major role in determining the mechanical properties of the alloy. These mechanical properties are highly microstructural dependent. Microstructure based finite element analysis of aluminium silicon alloys has been done to predict the mechanical properties of the alloy. The alloy has been prepared using gravity casting, and its microstructure has been observed through optical and Scanning electron microscope (SEM). Orientation of the secondary phase (eutectic silicon) has been observed and also effect of porosity is also studied as a part of preliminary understanding of microstructure based finite element analysis of multiphase alloys using aluminium silicon alloy.

摘要
