Palliative care is an active and holistic approach for individuals of all ages suffering from serious health conditions due to serious illnesses, especially in the final stages of life. Its goal is to improve the quality of life for patients, their families, and caregivers. We believe that health services research will play an even greater role in helping individuals experience the final stage of life in a way they desire while improving their quality of life. This chapter highlights the significance of health services research in palliative care, drawing on existing studies to illustrate its contributions and challenges, and underscores its continuing importance in shaping policies and practices that support meaningful and peaceful end-of-life experiences.
