Health services research (HSR) involves the study of health-related services, encompassing medical care—from “sick care” covered by Japan’s national health insurance system to preventive care and screening services offered by public and private entities. While HSR primarily focuses on medical care, it also covers nonmedical services that support patients by modifying their lifestyles, living environments, and providing supportive activities.
