Assessing the Impact of ESG Initiatives on Financial Performance in the Energy Sector from Developing Countries: Efficiency Analysis and Productivity Growth by Data Envelopment Analysis and Malmquist Index
摘要
In the last few decades, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) has experienced significant growth in industry and corporations. This research evaluates the energy efficiency and productivity growth in energy firms from developing countries using data from the Bloomberg terminal from 2016–2023. The study uses data envelop analysis (DEA) and the malmquist index to assess the performance of energy firms. Results show significant year-to-year variations in efficiency, highlighting the influence of ESG factors on performance outcomes. Solar energy, oil, and gas firms demonstrate robust operational and financial performance, reflecting their adaptability to regulatory pressures and technological advancements. The paper concludes by suggesting the continuous integration of ESG strategies and technology innovations as a route to sustainable efficiency and competitiveness in the new global energy environment.
