Miscellaneous Diseases of the Uterus
摘要
This chapter discusses the miscellaneous conditions of the uterus, including intrauterine devices, changes and complications of the uterus and pelvis after surgery, radiation therapy and instrumentation, uterine prolapse, foreign body in the uterus and vagina, pregnancy-related uterine diseases, endometrial polyps and hyperplasia, myometrial contraction, and benign cervical lesions. Commonly used intrauterine devices are illustrated with schematic drawings. The most common postsurgical change is uterine deformity caused by cesarean delivery, while rare postoperative complications are also included. Pelvic floor weakness is a significant women’s health issue, primarily affecting multiparous women. Pregnancy-related uterine conditions discussed include missed abortion, postpartum complication, sacculation of the uterus, and chronic endometritis. The chapter also addresses tamoxifen-induced endometrial polyps. Myometrial contraction is often observed during magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, especially in patients with gestational trophoblastic disease. Nabothian cysts, a common type of cyst in the uterine cervix, are also discussed as knowledge of their imaging characteristics can aid in the interpretation of computed tomography (CT) and MR images of the pelvis.
