Distributed Statcom with Fuzzy Controlled Battery Fed Dual Active Bridge for Roof-Top Solar Dominated Distribution Networks

From the last decade, the electrical distribution network (EDN) has been dominated by roof-top solar PV (RfS-PV) installations. To improve the power quality of the RfS-PV dominated EDN, certain grid codes have been proposed by the distribution system operators (DSO) like, use of VAR compensation at the common coupling point(CCP), Henceforth, a single system with the ability to provide gridcodes has to be used while they are termed ‘Storage Enabled Statcom’ (SES). A configuration formed by a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) fed two level converter has been presented in this chapter to operate as SES. The DAB regulates the intermittent DC-link voltage with the help of fuzzy logic based control to improve the transient performance. The complete system was modelled in PSCAD and the results are persuasive to operate the configuration as SES in RfS-PV dominated EDN.
