Bringing Robots on the Stage: A Co-designed Multiplatform Robot Control System for Theatrical Performances

The research project “Scène et Robotique” explores the relational and dramaturgical potential of social robots in the theater. Through the paradigm of Design-Based Research, artists and engineers developed a series of theatrical performances using small humanoid robots. In this paper we describe the cross-platform, humanoid robot control system developed in this project that made this co-creation possible, exploring its potentials and its limitations.
