Inspired by the structure and function of natural transmembrane channel proteins, various fully synthetic transmembrane channels have been developed. In this chapter, the author introduces the anomalous material permeation properties of fluorinated supramolecular channels and explains how fluorination imparts emergent functions and selectivity beyond those of conventional synthetic channels.
