Internationalisation of Higher Education: Concerns of Financing, Affordability and Equity
摘要
The internationalisation of higher education has increasingly become a priority in global policy discourse, as it intersects with core issues such as financing, affordability, and equity. Countries have adopted diverse strategies to address these challenges, reflecting varying national contexts and policy orientations. The current study aims to assess global best practices and determine how they can be applicable to the Indian higher education system. Utilising secondary data sources, the research emphasizes essential strategies to bolster India’s internationalisation efforts. Key actions include improving the effectiveness of the Study in India initiative, broadening bilateral and multilateral memoranda of understanding to enhance student and faculty mobility, rallying alumni support and institutional endowments, and expanding the scholarship programmes offered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Additionally, the promotion of cost-effective online platforms such as SWAYAM can widen global access. Crucially, the study underscores the importance of regulatory oversight in fee structures to uphold the principles of equity and affordability in international education.
