Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) are at an interesting juncture currently. After being largely inward-looking for several decades, there is now a strong push to reach out to the world through internationalization. The push comes from increasing, world-scale ambitions of these institutions, governmental policies (such as through the National Education Policy 2020), and is further fueled by increasing national aspirations. Among other HEIs, IIT Madras (IITM) has developed several innovative strategies to achieve such globalization, with an eye on improving the research and educational experience of its faculty and students. The strategies have clearly helped IIT Madras reach out to the research communities across the world, and markedly increased the number of joint projects, degree programs, and other initiatives with top universities. However, challenges ranging from funding and financial access, cultural differences, and lack of alignment in academic calendars, still exist. The chapter highlights some of the details of the globalization motifs explored at IIT Madras and the efforts taken towards the mitigation of the challenges.

摘要
