Revisiting Neo-Mythologism: A Critique of Academic Neglect in the Reinterpretation of Mythology in China
摘要
Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, the Neo-Mythologism movement has swept through global literature and film, establishing mythology as a vital and growing force within the cultural industry. This chapter explores the new opportunities that the current mythological trend brings to comparative mythology, a field that shares a historical connection with comparative literature. The aim is to demonstrate that academic depth is more crucial than imagination in contemporary reinvention of myths. A broad cross-cultural perspective and a deep knowledge of the heritage of multi-ethnic mythology are essential qualities for today’s writers, critics, comparative literature researchers, and especially those engaged in reinterpreting myths.
