This chapter discusses the precious stone worship practiced by the Sumerian civilization and the impact this had on other civilizations, in turn revealing that precious stone worship was a universal phenomenon in early civilizations. Using Sumerian lapis lazuli myths as a case study, it explores how these mythological concept helped shape the ancients’ belief, philosophy and behavior, and promoted international trade and cultural dissemination, thus providing a strong impetus for the birth of all civilizations
