Will the Digital Euro Be Green? Status Quo, Potentials, and Obstacles
摘要
The European Central Bank supports the environmental goals of the European Union in its area of competence and included climate protection in its political priorities. It prompted researchers to rethink the fundamental relationship between monetary policy and environmental protection, but also to explore the potential of digital central bank currencies in relation to the achievement of sustainability goals. Against the background of the current status of the ECB's project for a future digital euro, this article analyzes potential environmental impacts from an economic perspective, as well as the obstacles and conflicts that arise in this context. It evaluates the findings and derives recommendations for economic policy in the context of the digital euro project development.
