This chapter explores the sociocultural milestone of Backsilmove’s establishment as a form of youth’s environmental concerns about the ecosystem crisis in Bandung, Indonesia, and its interaction with environmental protection activities in the city. Interaction and participation in the environmental movement in Greenpeace Indonesia was emphasized by Backsilmove activists as an experiential space to accumulate the cultural capital of and embody environmental activists’ identity. The activists maintained that their participation in non-violent direct actions, as well as active experience participating in and orchestrating environmental protest, provided them with the expertise necessary to form Backsilmove and build the environmental movement.
