Since the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) was established in 1960, OPEC has been playing a key role as a supplier in the global oil market, maintaining the market stability through joint actions. However, since the twenty-first century, as great transformation has taken place both in energy demand of countries and the resources and technologies of energy-producing countries, the global energy supply–demand pattern has witnessed profound changes.
