Coir is an agro waste obtained from the husk of coconut. It is one of the natural fiber having a good tensile strength. Adding natural fiber in concrete is advantageous due to its easily availability, cheap and economical, no CO2 emission, sustainable nature, etc. Adding untreated coir fiber will reduce the compressive strength of concrete due to weak fiber to concrete matrix interaction. But, the past studies shows, the treated fibers such as boiling treatment and alkali treatment can improve the compressive strength but are becoming less tensile and less durable. Therefore, arriving to a solution is necessary for the treatment of coir fiber. Some studies show that, silica fume coated other fibers will enhance the properties of concrete. So, in this work, the aim is to evaluate and compare the mechanical properties of silica fume coated and uncoated coir fiber reinforced concrete of M30. It is found that, compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of silica fume coated coir fiber reinforced concrete shows a higher value than control specimen and silica fume uncoated fiber. Also, this treatment is sustainable in nature.

摘要
