Education plays a pivotal role in addressing the complex ecological issues that confront us and serves as a foundational pillar for building an ecological society. Through its multifaceted approach to learning and development, education equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to promote sustainable practices, protect biodiversity, and foster environmental stewardship. In this chapter, our primary objective is to delve into the transformation within China’s academic realm regarding the concept of “ecological civilization education.” We employed a content analysis approach, meticulously examining various texts and documents to understand how this concept, initially articulated in policy terms, has evolved into a nuanced educational discourse. Through this analysis, we aim to uncover the underlying mechanisms driving these changes, as well as the challenges and opportunities they present for fostering an understanding of ecological civilization education within the Chinese context. Then, through a case study, we probed into the educational models of ecological civilization in China and proposed suggestions for how these can be adapted on a global scale.
