China’s Sustainable Investment in Africa: The SGR Project in Kenya as a Case Study
摘要
Building on Chapter 3’s general assessment of the potential impact of China’s BRI across Africa, this chapter provides a detailed, empirical analysis of the state-centric CSR approach in Kenya’s SGR project. Recognizing Africa’s diversity, the study focuses on country and project-specific attributes. The core analysis is based on six months of fieldwork, utilizing 39 semi-structured interviews. Participants included Chinese and Kenyan government officials, CRBC managers, elected county officials from Mombasa and Kajiado, local liaison officers, NGO and media representatives, UN Environment officers, and China Exim Bank managers. This diverse group was selected to capture a wide range of perspectives.
