Healthcare is faced with fragmentation of data, administrative burdens, diagnostic limits, and long research time scale. And these issues impede the delivery of efficient patient-centered care as well as medical innovation’s progress. In this chapter, we discuss the key challenges in these production lines and where they stand in the process of improvement. The ubiquity of generative AI is also explored herein, first with respect to the fundamentals, historical evolution, and core mechanisms of generative AI in the healthcare context. In addition, there are several solution frameworks and main use cases that can leverage generative AI for the generation of synthetic data generation, advanced imaging, automatic clinical workflows, and in drug discovery. These are but a few of the ways in which generative AI can solve critical problems of healthcare and aid in the improvement of care delivery as well as in speeding up medical research.

摘要
