Robotics in Elderly Mental Health Care, Especially with Reference to Dementia: Psychosocial Perspectives
摘要
The ongoing development of robotics against the background of a decreasing number of care personnel raises the question of which contribution robotics could have to rationalize and maintain or even improve the quality of care in the elderly. Studies have been found reporting positive effects of companion-type robots on the social and psychological level and physiological level. However, the scientific value of the evidence is limited since most research is done in small quarters with small sample sets and with mostly an explorative approach. The chapter presents an overview of the role of robotics in elderly care and the various dimensions in which robotics may play a role in elderly care. The role in disorders as well as routine care is highlighted, and the role of robotics in elderly care for the future is discussed.
