Multimodal Sensing Arrays for Comprehensive Health Monitoring and Disease Management
摘要
Multimodal sensing arrays represent a groundbreaking advancement in healthcare technology, enabling the concurrent monitoring of diverse physiological parameters through the integration of biochemical, physical, optical, and thermal sensors. By capturing the dynamic interplay among biological systems, these platforms provide a comprehensive and real-time assessment of an individual’s health status, paving the way for more precise, personalized, and proactive medical interventions. This chapter discusses the fundamental principles highlighting multimodal sensing technologies, examining their current applications and projecting future directions in the context of disease management and precision medicine. It introduces the conceptual framework of multimodal sensing and underscores its critical role in monitoring complex physiological phenomena, particularly in the management of chronic diseases, mental health conditions, and postoperative recovery. Emphasis is placed on the synergistic integration of biochemical markers with physical parameters including heart rate variability and biomechanical movement, to yield multidimensional health insights. The chapter further explores device design and fabrication strategies, emphasizing the use of biocompatible materials, flexible electronics, and low-power circuitry that support wearable and implantable form factors. Emerging innovations in data fusion and machine learning are also discussed, illustrating how artificial intelligence enables enhanced real-time monitoring, predictive modeling, and individualized therapeutic strategies. Key challenges, including regulatory compliance, data security, and system integration, are critically analyzed to illuminate the current limitations and future opportunities in this field. The chapter concludes with a forward-looking perspective, envisioning the convergence of multimodal sensing arrays with advances in nanotechnology, quantum sensing, and personalized medicine to transform healthcare delivery through early diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and tailored interventions.
