The Emotional Landscape of Hybrid Work
摘要
This chapter considers the emotional aspects of hybrid work and how this can be complicated when some workplace communication is online. While hybrid work offers workers freedom and flexibility it can also evoke frustration, disconnection, and anxiety. The emotional scope of hybrid work ranges from frustration to happiness and contentment. Reading and interpreting others’ emotions online is complex and raises questions about emotional regulation and emotional labour. As emotions are increasingly expressed through technological channels, new forms of language such as emojis, or visual, symbolic text devices are used to illustrate feelings and as a substitute for in-person emotional cues. Pictorial language builds liveliness into textual conversations and can indicate fun and enthusiasm but caution is needed as they can easily be misconstrued and misread.
