Building on the theoretical framework of Hannah ArendtArendt, Hannah, this chapter critically examines the 2015 so-called “refugee crisisRefugee crisis” and its transformation into a multi-layered crisis that has since profoundly shaped political discoursePolitical discourse in Greece. As detailed throughout the chapter, migration policy emerged as a central issue in the electoral strategies of political parties during the 2019 and 2023 campaigns. Particular emphasis is placed on the issue of securing of the Greek-Turkish border in the Evros region and the implementation of restrictive migration measures by the conservative New DemocracyNew Democracy (ND) (NDNew Democracy (ND)) government. We also discuss the fact that although these policies are the opposite of the humanitarian approach adopted by the SYRIZACoalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) administration during 2015, they nonetheless shape the party's contemporary discourse on migration.
