In this chapter we review important landmarks of Greek political history. By discussing schisms that date back to the Greek civil warCivil wargreek civil war (1944–1949) and subsequent divisive events, as well as important aspects of foreign and financial policies adopted by governments before and after the so-calledMetapolitefsi “Metapolitefsi” i.e., the transition to democracy after the fall of the 1967–1974 military dictatorshipDictatorshipmilitary dictatorship, we aim to shed light on political events of the recent past (2008–2024). We also refer to the role of traditional and new media in shaping public opinion, functioning as opinion mediators who recycle Greece’s turbulent political past and attempt to affect its future.
