This study examines the legacy of environmentally sustainable practices in Kashmir, focusing on traditional methods of agriculture, architecture, water and waste management, and small-scale enterprises. Rooted in centuries of indigenous knowledge, these practices demonstrate a deep ecological wisdom and provide valuable insights for addressing pressing environmental challenges. By positioning these age-old approaches within a contemporary context, the study underscores their relevance and potential to mitigate modern issues such as climate change, resource scarcity, and ecosystem degradation. The study argues for the integration of traditional ecological knowledge with modern scientific innovations as a pivotal strategy for advancing sustainable development in the region. These practices promote a harmonious relationship with the natural environment and offer practical, low-impact solutions for environmental conservation. By illustrating the potential of these sustainable practices to inspire environmentally conscious lifestyles, this review calls for collaborative efforts among policymakers, environmental practitioners, and local stakeholders to revitalise and promote these traditional systems.
