A Triple-Nexus Approach to Australia’s Regional Development: Attraction and Retention of Migrants in Regional Australia
摘要
This chapter argues that the shortage of human resources in regional Australia can be addressed through a well-planned and coordinated migration and settlement program involving all levels of government, stakeholders in regional communities, and the migrant diaspora living both in the cities and in regional areas. However, settling migrants without accompanying development may be counterproductive unless infrastructure and facilities in regional areas are enhanced to make these communities more liveable. Therefore, this chapter proposes a ‘triple nexus’ model framework for migrant settlement and makes recommendations regarding regional migrant settlement, regional economic development, and regional community empowerment.
