Designing Nutritional Interventions for Mental Health
摘要
The new field of nutritional psychiatry provides evidence that diet quality is a modifiable risk factor for mental illnesses such as mood disorders, stress-related disorders, and dementia. It is a rapidly growing field of research with the potential to offer clinically meaningful interventions to both prevent and manage mental illness. The road to mental health recovery is often long and challenging. However, nutritional psychiatry has the potential to be a game changer, modifying the entire mental health landscape by serving as a primary prevention modality through the promotion of healthier diets. Continued research is required to translate the evidence base into clinical and public health recommendations. In this chapter, we aim to provide adequate knowledge of how the designing of nutritional interventions can affect mental health, discuss the effective interventions to overcome these disorders. Moreover, we discuss potential factors affecting response to nutritional interventions, and the role of personalized nutrition. We also explain the multidisciplinary approach to nutrition medicine, the role of digital health in dietary interventions, including tracking apps and telemedicine, and future innovations such as artificial intelligence.
