Feasibility Assessment of Adopting Industrial Waste as an Alternative to Conventional Fine Aggregate as a Way Forward to Sustainability in Construction

The present study deals with experimental investigations in the concrete with partial replacement of natural river sand by manufactured sand (M-Sand), quarry dust and foundry sand. Over the past previous years, the river bed has been abused which ultimately results in the scarcity of river sand. The above said materials used for partial replacement of sand are tested in the laboratory to understand the properties like fineness modulus, specific gravity and water absorption. The ASTM standards are used to test M-Sand in the laboratory. The percentage of M-sand, quarry dust and foundry sand has been varied in proportions and various trials are noted for targeted strength of 25 N/mm2 of concrete. A suitable proportion of M-Sand, quarry dust and foundry sand has been identified after performing number of trails in the laboratory. The strength of this new mix is observed more than targeted strength (25 N/mm2).
