While rhythm as a concept seems to be all pervasive today, seeing applications in a wide range of disciplines, it is best expressed in the context of temporality—music, human body, earth—which show certain kinds of changes over time. So, can such a temporal concept be applied to spatial arts? If so, what should be the basis on which rhythm is or can be understood? Assuming that temporal rhythm can actually, in some way be translated to spatial understanding, spatiality can be translated into temporality in two different ways: (a) perceptually, since the act of seeing is temporal, and (b) exploring features of rhythm that can be identified in spatial arts. Through a quick review of literature on spatial rhythm and using a semiotics approach, the paper examines these challenges to gain insights into the concept of spatial rhythm as something that can be found in all visual art forms.

摘要
